It is with great sadness that we, the family of Ellen (Shepherd) Bugden, 94, announce her passing at the Northside Community Guest Home on Monday, Aug. 31, 2015.
Ellen was the daughter of the late Aaron and Elizabeth Shepherd of North Sydney and Newfoundland.
Born in Diamond Cove, Rose Blanche, Nfld., in 1921, Ellen moved to North Sydney in 1935, at the early age of 14 and then to Sydney. In 1939, she married the love of her life, Traver Bugden of Sydney. They built their home in the Ashby area of Sydney and she was a homemaker most of her adult life, raising her five children. During the 1970s and 1980s, Ellen became a home care provider who was well-respected by her many clients for her caring and compassionate ways. For many years, she volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics.
Ellen is survived by her four children, Carol Clarke, Cobourg, Ont., Ida Coleman (Donald), Sydney, John Bugden (Claudine), Oshawa, Ont. and Lloyd Bugden (Elva), Ottawa, Ont.; 12 grandchildren, Elaine, Sandra, Shelley, Kim and Robert; Angela and Cherie Lynn; Bernice and Gregory; Steven and Tanya; and David (Billy), as well as her 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Bugden; sisters, Hazel Johnston and Harriet Scott; brother, Charlie Shepherd, all of North Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Traver in 1999; son, David; grandson, Todd; sisters, Marion Cadden and Winnie Buffet; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Ida Bugden; brothers-in-law, Ken Bugden, Russel Scott, Arthur Buffet, Bob Cadden and Fred Johnston; sisters-in-law, Etta Shepherd, Elva Bugden, Muriel and Ruple Meisner.
Visitation for Ellen will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney on Friday, Sept. 4th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, Sept. 5th at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Grand Lake Road.
