Anne Elizabeth Guinan

UINAN, Anne Elizabeth, 61, Creighton Street, Halifax, died peacefully August 31, 2015 at the QEII Victoria General Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Truro on December 9, 1953 she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary Margaret (McDevitt) Guinan. She graduated from Cobequid Educational Centre in 1972 and then attended Acadia University. In 1979 she graduated from the Halifax Infirmary as a Registered Nurse. In her life and in her profession she was renowned as a very thorough, kind, and compassionate person. She began her 30-year nursing career in Halifax at the Grace Maternity Hospital, followed by Medical/Surgical Unit, ENT, and Ophthalmology at the old Halifax Infirmary and the Victoria General Hospitals. She retired from the Veterans Memorial Building. Anne had an incredible intellect and was a voracious reader. She was a collector and supporter of Nova Scotia cat folk art and had a diverse taste in music, which developed throughout her lifetime. Attending concerts, music festivals, and ox-pulls were among some of her greatest pleasures. She was known for her love of cats, was always ready for an adventure and enjoyed travelling both locally and abroad. She cherished her relationships with family, friends and her neighbourhood community. She was a long-time supporter of many charities including Pierre’s Alley Cat Society, the Halifax Missions to Seafarers and Brunswick Street United Church, Halifax. She is survived by her mother, Mary; siblings William (Valerie) Calgary; David (Janice) Bible Hill; John (Katherine) Truro; Sandra (Robert Donaldson) Truro; Dorothy (Larry de Lottinville) St. Augustin, PQ; nieces and nephews, William, Alexandria, Vincent, John , Sophia (Calgary); Tomas, Alan, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Cassie, Christopher, Jillian, (Truro); Tara, Nicolas (St. Augustin, PQ); great-nephew Elijah (Truro); Uncle John (Carol) McDevitt, (Barrie, ON); Aunt Catherine (Cassie)McDevitt, (Yarmouth); cousins; Tom and Mike Guinan; Bronwen, Glynis, and Jeannie McGarva; Susan Mayers as well as several distant cousins. Visitation 6-8 p.m. followed by prayers on Thursday, September 3rd at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 4th at Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall.
