CHESTER CLYDE DAY

CHESTER CLYDE DAY

Born: September 28th, 1934

Passed on: August 13th, 2015

With sadness we said goodbye to Ches, who passed away peacefully at home with his high school sweetheart Edy and family at his side.
Ches was born in Athabasca, Alberta. He spent part of his younger years growing up there and in the USA. He later moved to Gibsons where he met and fell in love with Edy Farnham.
Ches and Edy were married in Vancouver on August 25, 1951. Their love for each has been an inspiration and beautiful example for all to watch during their 64 years of marriage.
They lived and raised their four children in Gibsons, and Roberts Creek (Lockyer Road). Ches worked for the railroad in Edmonton for a few years as well as a pulp tester and first aid attendant in Port Mellon and also many years in the log salvage/beachcomber business on the Sunshine Coast. In the early ‘70s they relocated to Rock Creek to retire and run their farm. He later started a successful fence contracting business with two good friends. After a number of years they relocated to Stewart, BC, where Ches owned and operated a logging truck. Later they moved to Magna Bay on Shuswap Lake, where he became a real estate salesman. He then retired for a second time and moved to Grand Forks for his remaining years.
Ches was so thankful for his wife, family and home, which became the most treasured aspect of his life as the years went by. He was well loved, respected and enjoyed by his family and friends. Who could ever forget his quick witted remarks and sense of humour, his wonderful smile and his standard reply, “I’m tremendous!”? He was truly “one of a kind” and will be greatly missed.
Ches was predeceased by his parents Jack and Chloe Day, sister Pat Ashby, sister-in-law Pearl, son Kurt and grandson Paul. Survived by his sweetheart Edy, daughters Laurie Gray of Sechelt, Linda (Perry) Harding of Roberts Creek, son Dale (Debbie) of Kettle Valley, daughter-in-law Lee of Grand Forks, son-in-law Jim of Sechelt, brother George (Wendy) of Victoria, sister Donna of Edmonton, sisters-in-law Lila Head of Gibsons and Dodie (Dan Bergnach) of Vernon, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, niece Gail and nephew Blair of Gibsons, and many other nieces and nephews.
No service by request, but family and close friends gathered to celebrate his life last weekend.
