James Clark Robbins
At the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, on September 20, 2015, at the age of 72 years, James Clark Robbins, husband of Simone Samson. Clark was the son of James and Alice (MacPherson) Robbins, born in Yarmouth, September 26, 1942. He attended Saint Ambrose School and YCMHS, then Saint Mary’s University, moving to Montreal in 1966 where he worked for Canadian Marconi. Clark was an avid downhill skier and windsurfer, among other sporting interests, adopting Mont-Tremblant, Québec for its easy access to sports and wilderness, such as he knew growing up in Yarmouth.
Among his many interests later in life, Clark pursued the question of the Old World origins of Philippe Mius d’Entremont, using DNA methods. Clark was a d’Entremont by his maternal grandmother. Working with Pauline d’Entremont of Le Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos, in 2014 they were able to identify a Mius descendant living in France who is closely related by DNA. This may provide a new avenue to finding the deeper origins of Philippe Mius d’Entremont.
Clark is mourned by his sister, Alice Robbins (Artur Kraeutner) of Bremen, Germany, brother Christopher Robbins (Marijke Hurkens) of Fredericton, his nephew Demian Robbins (Melinda Smith), his nieces Ceiridwen and Bronwen Robbins, by members of his Robbins and MacPherson families in Nova Scotia and Ontario, and by the extended family of his spouse in Quebec. A service was celebrated on September 26 in the chapel at Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal.
