It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Violet Cadden, 70, of New Waterford on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at home.
Born in Catalone, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Kennedy) Wadden.
Violet was employed as an LPN with New Waterford Hospital and New Waterford Homecare. She loved watching eagles, bluejays and hummingbirds and adored cats. She also enjoyed fishing, picking berries, and was an avid hockey fan. She cheered for the Pittsburgh Penguins, namely Sidney Crosby, and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, of which she was a season ticket holder. Violet also loved watching her grandson's Bantam AA team back in 2007. All the players referred to her as 'Nanny'. Most of all, Violet loved spending time with family, especially her son, Charlie.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Cadden-MacPhee (Angus Cook); son Charles Paul Cadden; grandson Gregory (Brittany), all of New Waterford and one great-grandchild on the way; brothers, Aubrey (Jeanette) Wadden, Bateson, Michael (Margie) Wadden, Sydney; sisters, Theresa Wadden, Marion Bridge, Hazel Williams, Sydney, Joan (John Allan) MacKay, Catalone; special friends, Judy Fraser, Joan MacKinnon, Florence McLeod, Lynn Walker and Carol Ratchford; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, Violet was predeceased by her husband Alfred Graham Cadden, son, Alfred Joseph Cadden Jr., daughter Paula Marie, in infancy, sisters, Sally, in infancy, Carmel, Florence, Doreen, Marguerite, brothers, Tony, Stanley, Reg, Howard, Dave, Roddie, Stanley, mother and father-in-law Marion and Robert Cadden, brother-in-law, Bobby Cadden.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating.Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens with a luncheon to follow at the New Waterford Fire Hall.
Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the New Waterford Homemakers Services.
