Euphemia 'Phemie' Reid, age 89, of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at the palliative care unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Agnes (McMullin) Gillis.
Phemie retired in 1991 after teaching for 45 years in the Cape Breton area. In her later years, she enjoyed her conversations with Billy, Ann, Harold as well as the visits from the family pets.
She is survived by two daughters, Paula Arsenault (Brian), Janis Reid, two sons, Kenny Reid (Noelle Wadden), Howie Reid (Nancy Hughes), one sister Agnes Mombourquette (Fred), New Glasgow, sister-in-law Flossie Gillis, brother-in-law Billy MacDonald, six grandchildren, Michael (Jessica Brown), Jenna, Janis, Breton, Clayton, Danielle, great-granddaughter, Harper, nieces and nephews.
Phemie was predeceased by her husband, Howard Reid, an infant daughter, four brothers, Stanley, Angus, Eddie, Rannie Gillis, three sisters, Mildred Burke, Mayme Miles and Theresa MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. There will be no visitation or funeral mass. A private interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
