Tom Macdonald

Tom Macdonald, 64, died in the Moncton City Hospital on October 11, 2015 in the arms of his wife and daughters and surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends.

Born and raised in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Tom was the son of Gordon and Laverna Pearl Macdonald (Nickerson) and ‘much’ younger brother of Elaine (Bruce) Reynolds. He was a proud Cape Bretoner with a scrappy island spirit and a keen sense of humour. Tom attended Acadia University where he made life long friendships and lived stories that have become legendary through the retelling of his friends. After graduation, Tom dedicated his career to RBC and throughout his time there he had the good fortune to live all around Atlantic Canada and forge meaningful relationships with colleagues and friends. After 33 years of proud and loyal service he retired in 2007 from his position as Regional Vice President and began his second career as a full-time golfer and property manager at his beloved Afton Lake. Tom spent his retirement doing the things he loved best with the people he loved best.

Tom’s biggest passion in life was his family. Throughout their 40 years together Tom and Monica (McDearmid) built a close-knit and loving family. His three daughters Mary, Elizabeth and Rebecca and son-in-law Doug enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their parents and each other and this is a true testament to the nurturing home that he and Monica created. His most recent and biggest source of joy was his role as ‘Tompy‘ to his grand daughter Afton Pearl.

Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church, Charlottetown on Friday at 2:00 p.m. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, Charlottetown (www.qehfoundation.pe.ca).

Tom’s family would like to thank the Moncton City Hospital for the kindness and compassion that they showed during a difficult time.
