Jean Armoral Bastow (nee Wells)

Passed peacefully away at Camp Hill Veteran's Pavilion in Halifax on Saturday Nov. 21, 2015. Jean was born August 8th 1922 to Raymond and Jeannette Wells of St. John's NL. She was predeceased by her parents; brother Harry; sister Marjorie (Noseworthy) and by her beloved husband Gerald. Leaving to mourn sons: Anthony (Sheila), Douglas (Suzanne); daughter, Jennifer Hanlin (John); nine grandchildren: Allison, Stephanie, Amy and Andrew, Stuart and Jessica, Ian, Eric and Jacqueline, and three great-grandchildren: Ryder, Harrison and Jude, as well as nieces and nephews of "Auntie Jean". A fervent "Spencerian", Jean attended Bishop Spencer College Girl's School. After graduation with her Business Course, Jean worked at Confederation Life. She enlisted in the Canadian Women's Army Corp on July 1943 and was later posted to Washington DC and attached to the British Army Staff. As a lifelong volunteer, she was involved with the Feildian Home and School Assoc., A.C.W.A. and the Altar Guild at the Anglican Cathedral in St. John's as well as numerous other organizations. In addition our Mother spent many years with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Caribou Memorial Veteran's Pavilion in St. John's visiting and providing valuable support to staff and resident Veterans. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the tender loving care provided by the staff of 3 West, Camp Hill Veteran's Pavilion in Halifax. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd, St. John's NL, on Sunday, November 29th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will take place from the Anglican Cathedral, Church Street on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. followed by inurnment at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.
