It is with heavy hearts that we the family of announce the passing of our brother, uncle and friend William 'Billie' Graham on Nov. 21, 2015, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late William and Janie (O'Handley) Graham.
In his early years, Billie worked at Lingan colliery as a miner, then as a merchant marine with Upper Lake Shipping where he sailed the great lakes. He then joined the Royal Canadian Navy and sailed on many ships, including the HMS Bonaventure. He then moved to Ontario where he was an iron worker for over 20 years with the International Labourers Union, Luna 506. Billie was an avid outdoor, he loved to hunt, fish, garden and relax with friends and family.
Billie had many passions. He was either all in- or all out. He loved riding motorcycles, flying ultralight planes, or "tickling the Ivories" with his musical talents. He also enjoyed card tricks, and sharing a good joke. Billie was a true friend to all who knew him. He was a loyal friend, and a caring uncle, who had a heart of gold. He was also known for his amazing quick wit, and sense of humour. After his retirement, he returned to his roots in Cape Breton where he resided.
He is survived by his sister, Janice O'Neill, sister-in law Faith Graham, nieces Tracey (George), Candace (Rob), Allana, and nephew Logan (Janine), several grandnieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Allan and brother-in law Gerard O'Neill.
Billie will be deeply missed by his longtime friends, Andy S, Mickie M., Ernie P, Bernie W. and many longtime friends both in New Waterford and Ontario. He will be especially missed by his special grandnieces, Livia and Nicole, with whom he resided with for several years.
Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Army, Navy and Airforce, Smith Street, All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford.
