t is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Vincent Roy Bailey, age 64, on Nov. 27, 2015, surrounded by his family at Harbourstone Enhanced Care.
Born in Sydney Mines on Jan. 21, 1951, he was the son of the late Helen (Cousins) and Stanley Bailey.
Vince worked at National Sea Foods, North Sydney, until they closed in 1991 and he later started the TAGS program creating jobs for the laid-off fishery workers. In 2002 he began work at Marine Atlantic until illness forced his retirement in 2009. Vince was an active member of Trinity Anglican Church and a member of the choir. Vince will always be remembered for his love of singing and dancing. In his earlier years, Vince was a union activist for the CAW, a member of St. John Ambulance and an associate member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 83 Florence.
Vince is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sharon (King); son, Terry (Lisa) Penny; grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle), special little angel, Terri-Lynn and Andrew. Survived also by sister, Phyllis (Adrian) O'Toole; brothers, Raymond (Beatrice), Sheldon (Wendy); sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Bailey and Kay (Ernie) Green and bothers-in-law, Archie MacKinnon and Kevin King. Best friends, Wilfred and Cheryl (Organ) Marsh; many nieces and nephews and little fur baby, Zoe.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Margaret 'Sis' MacKinnon, Adeline; brothers, Tuller and Harold Bailey; sisters-in-law, Asta King, Linda Raymond and brother-in-law, Kenny King.
Special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care (MacDougall Court) for the excellent care provided during his time there.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Burial in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Tobin Road, Sydney Mines.
Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Anglican Church Building Fund.
