William Freeman Case

Passed on: November 26th, 2015

On Thursday, November 26th, 2015, at the end of a happy day, Bill suddenly passed at his home in Bradenton, Florida. He was born to William and Suzanne Case in Grand Bank, Newfoundland, on August 17th, 1926. He was the youngest of three children along with his sisters Ruby Gough and the late Jessica Seneshen. In 1949 Bill joined the Royal Canadian Navy giving five years service on HMCS aircraft carrier Magnificent. While stationed in Halifax he met Lillian, who became his cherished wife. Returning to Newfoundland he continued his service training Sea Cadets, was an avid curler, and enjoyed many years on Gull Pond in Deer Park. He began a business career managing Guildford's Ltd., opening Newfoundland's first A&Ws, and launching a career as a commercial developer. His love for business never waned, retiring well into his senior years. During his career Bill served on the Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Board and was a board member of the General Hospital Health Foundation. He served as President during his tenure and was influential in the acquisition of the Province's first MRI machine. Interested in the well being of his province, even prior to Confederation, he took an active role in politics for many years. He leaves, with love, his Lillian. They lived a wonderful life together for 61 years. They raised their family, loved to travel, and during the last few years enjoyed time at their Florida home. Bill leaves his three precious daughters, Susan, and her husband Paul Smith, Janet and her partner Keith Miller, and Sandra and her husband David Kannenberg. His grandchildren, Alison and Ryan Smith of New Hampshire, Teddy and Jack Cadigan, Scott Atkinson, and Emma and Anna Kannenberg, brought him endless joy. He also leaves his dear sister, Ruby Gough, his brother-in-law Ross McKenna, his nieces, nephews and a treasury of friends. A memorial service will be held for Bill on Saturday, December 19th, 2 pm, at Carnell's Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John's. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Arthritis Society or the Health Care Foundation. To send a message of condolence or to sign the memorial guest book, please visit www.carnells.com.

The cares of tomorrow must
wait 'til this day is done.
