Passed on: January 26th, 2016

CROCKER, (Dot) Doris Lillian (Hamilton) of Monarch wing, The Meadows Home for Special Care and formerly of 23 Main St., Yarmouth, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in her 96th year due to heart failure. She was the last surviving, youngest, and longest lived member of her immediate family. Her fighting spirit gave her the strength to never give up. On more than one occasion the family was told she would not survive, yet in the end she outlived all her siblings (and their spouses) and she was the last of her era to go. She stood as a testament of strength, determination and courage. During the last week or so of her life she gave up some of that fighting spirit and relaxed into an accepting comfort of no longer being in control. She was born in Forest Glen, Yarmouth Co., on July 6, 1920 - the youngest of 14 siblings of the late Elizabeth Bessie Maude (Brittain) and David Whitman Hamilton. In 1940, she married (Dick) Richard E. Crocker. They were married 69+ years until he passed away on March 18, 2010. After Dick’s retirement from general contracting, she enjoyed working side by side with him on their woodlot in Mood’s Mill where they had a small Christmas tree lot and cottage. She always had lovely flower gardens. She had a “green thumb” and was a true friend to many stray cats in her lifetime providing food, shelter, and vet care. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Crocker and her spouse Lorne Allen; numerous nieces and nephews from the Hamilton side of her family; and by two nieces and one nephew from the Crocker side. She was predeceased by infant twin sons in 1941; 2 sisters, Eva Bullerwell in 1985 and Nina Chandler in 1971; by 11 brothers, Ezra in 1969; Maurice in 1970; Leaman in 1968; Earl in 1979; Laurence in 1975; Daniel in 1986; Frank in 1959; Mel in 1999; Harry in 1999; George in 1984; and Elmer in 1964. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place in the Spring in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery on Parade Street in Yarmouth. Donations in Memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or by showing a kindness to a needy stray. On-line condolences may be sent to: sweenysfh@eastlink.ca or you may sign the guestbook on-line at: www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
