Robert (Bob) Wheaton

Robert (Bob) Wheaton

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert Albert Wheaton, age 84, announce the peaceful passing on February 3rd, 2016 with his family by his side. Born in Midgic, NB on October 15th, 1931, he was the son of Venning Black & Annie Grace Wheaton.
Bob was a family man who enjoyed spending time with and teasing his grand-daughters Katelyn and Megan and was always willing to offer a helping hand with any yard work or off-the-wall construction jobs. He was an animal lover and often cared for many family pets.
In his younger years, Bob served in the Army in Germany driving service vehicles from 1951-1955. Upon his return, Bob found employment with Robb’s Engineering. He then spent many years working at Mount Allison University as a casual member of the grounds crew in 1979. In the fall of 1983, he started working at Allison Gardens throughout the winter months. He retired from the University in 1996.
After retirement, Bob could be found walking the streets of Sackville, spending time at Mel’s Diner and attending football and hockey games at MTA as their biggest fan.
Bob was a member of the Sackville Legion (Branch #26) and a dedicated member of the Sackville Lions Club, where he was awarded a lifetime membership of which he was very proud.
Bob enjoyed watching all sports, always cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He liked a good game of cards and a cold glass of beer with his buddies. Fishing trips to Miramachi, NB and NFLD with the boys always made for the best stories.
Robert is survived by his sons Kim (Kimberly) Wheaton of Fenwick, NS and Brian (Tam) Wheaton of Saskatoon, SK, the mother of his sons Shirley Wheaton of Dorchester, NB, two grand-daughters Katelyn and Megan Wheaton of Fenwick, NS, a sister Francis Hicks of Sackville, NB and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his sisters Betty Elliott and Muriel Ellis and his brother-in-laws Ronnie Elliott, Norman Ellis and Calvin Hicks.
The family would like to extend thanks to Joan LeBlanc and staff at Cedar Wood Lodge and the nurses and staff at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, NB for the outstanding care given to Robert (Bob) and support to his family in their time of need.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (902) 667-9906.
