STUART, Robert “Bob” Wayne, 72, Barrington Passage, died peacefully in Roseway Hospital on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from a combination of medical issues which took away the independence he valued so highly. Born October 3, 1943 in Shelburne, he was the elder son of the late Nehemiah and Doris (Belong) Stuart. Bob graduated Shelburne Regional High School, after which he attended the Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro where he received a Diploma in Physical Education. He spent his entire career at Barrington Municipal High School teaching and coaching Physical Education, Health, and various sports and related courses until back injuries forced an early retirement. As a young man he was a superb athlete, excellent in basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, golf and running. Particularly in basketball, he received recognition on numerous occasions as MVP, All Star, or as a member of championship teams. As well, he was recognized by the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation for the Education of Youth through interscholastic Athletics. He taught and coached many high school teams, and also was well-known around the South Shore as an excellent basketball referee. He never missed watching “Hockey Night in Canada”, was a life-long supporter of the Boston Red Sox, watched every game of football, basketball, golf, etc. on TV, and was an avid reader. In his retirement, he was pleased to support, in a small way, several charities which involved young and/or disadvantaged persons in sporting activities. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a very special aunt, Ina Williams. He will be missed by his sister Suzanne (Leland) Russell, Greenwood; brother, Larry (Danielle) Stuart, Calgary; daughter, Shauna Lee Stuart (Mrs. Shane Barrington), Dartmouth; nephews Christopher and Ian Stuart, and Lee Andrew and Scott Russell; and by former wife and long-time friend Carol Stuart-Oxner, Shelburne. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium Limited. By Bob’s request, there will be no visitation or formal funeral service. Private family burial of ashes will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Shelburne, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Association or charity of choice.
