With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of William 'Bill' Buffett, age 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in North Sydney on Aug. 28, 1938, Bill was the son of the late Harry and Ada (Grandy) Buffett.
He was employed as timekeeper for Marine Atlantic until his retirement. The great ice fishing, metal detecting, fiddle music lover and all-round wonderful man will be deeply missed. He was loved by all.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan (Scullen); his children Colleen, Mark and Trevor (Jennifer), and the love of his life, his grandson Evan William. He is also survived by his sister Georgina Mohan (Harish), his brother Ernest (Edith) and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother Roland (Marie) and brother Thomas in infancy.
A special thank you to his sister-in-law Marie, who compassionately gave her time to help Joan and Bill throughout his illness, and to Gloria Jessome who sat and helped care for him throughout the last week of his illness. Also, thank you to Bill’s family physician, Dr. Paul Hickey and Dr. Jensen and the Cape staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Center for the excellent care given to Bill throughout his illness.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service at Bill’s request. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made in Bill’s memory to a charity choice.
