Nita Porter

Nita Mae (Clark) Porter, 93, Green Hill, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb 5, 2016, in Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home, Trenton, NS. Born May 17, 1922, in Central West River, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Georgie (Grant) Clark.
Nita attended the one-room schoolhouse in Central West River, graduated from New Glasgow High School, then joined the Evening News staff as a linotype operator. In 1943, she married James Ross Porter and lived in their farmhouse on Green Hill for 67 years. She was an active member of Green Hill-Alma United Church and her community, serving in both in various ways over the years. She enjoyed being a homemaker - caring for family, being involved in her children's activities, gardening, sewing, entertaining visitors, square-dancing and line-dancing. Her lifelong faith in God enabled her to accept challenges with amazing grace and a pleasant spirit.
Remembering her with love and gratitude are her children: Judy (Don) Cameron, Lower Sackville, NS, Paul (Judy) Porter, Green Hill, and Cheryl (Jerry) Inman, Bedford, NS; grandchildren: Dr. Ian (Dr. Michelle) Porter, Ithaca, New York, Blair (Madelyne) Porter, Calgary, Amy (Mike) Cameron, Alma, Joanna Cameron, New Glasgow, Andrew Inman, Dartmouth and Jessica Inman, Bedford; great-grandchildren: Kevin, Eric and Rachel Porter, Calgary; brother-in-law Forrest Porter, Toronto; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James, sisters Lois Clark, Jean Field and Norma McCully.
Special thank you to the staff of Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home and Glen Haven Manor for the wonderful care she has received in the last few years.
