We, the family of the late Gertie Corbett, 92, are saddened by her sudden passing on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016.
Born in South Branch, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Eunice and Thomas Aucoin.
Gertie spent her early years in Cheticamp and Whitney Pier. She enjoyed a very social and active lifestyle, up until a few years ago. Some of her favourite times, were spent at the Pensioners Club, playing Tarabish with her son, Tom. She also loved dancing, and spending time at Pearl and Pepper’s Karaoke at Branch 12 Legion. However her most favourite times were when Donald and Kathy came home and they had a good feed of cabbage rolls, and played the guitars.
She is survived by her daughters, Vange Gray (her loving caretaker), Terry (Doc) Petrie, and her son, Donald (Kathy) Corbett. She is also survived by her bothers, Donnie (Ellie) and Willie (Phyllis). Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Paul 'Ecky', Dawn, Dale, Gwen, Karrie, Dianne, Amy, Fred, Joanne, Kim, Callie, Tammy, Tara-Lee, Chris and Josh. She is also survived by 26 great-grandchildren
Besides her parents, Gertie was predeceased by her husband, Phonse Corbett, in 1977. She was also predeceased by sons, Tom and Raymond; sisters, Nora and Eileen; brothers, Leonard, Ferman, Raymond, Butch and Jimmy.
Family flowers only. Donations in Gertie’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the CNIB
The family would like to thank the staff of 4A CBRH, VON, and The Cove Guest Home.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
