Cecil Leroy Bowman, 78 of Salmon River, N.S.
Expressing with great sadness and heavy hearts, the passing of Cecil Leroy Bowman on February 9, 2016 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Cecil was the son of the late Mary MacPhee (Angevine) and the late Wilfred Cecil Bowman as well as step father, Roy MacPhee. Cecil was born on February 19, 1937 on the Ess Road in Nine Mile River, where he lived most of his life. He resided in Salmon River, Colchester County for the last five years. He enjoyed music, hunting, flying his ultralight as well as bring with family. Cecil was very proud to play the bagpipes in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. Cecil marched and played the pipes at the grand opening of the Canso Causeway in 1955. Cecil also enjoyed playing the guitar, violin and bass. He enjoyed playing at many dances and also was in the band “Cross Bow.” Cecil was so proud of getting his first six point buck with his muzzle loader with step-son, Brian Angevine in 2014, Cecil was 77 years old. Cecil told the story many times of last winter when the heavy snow caused such a disaster to his porch, roof and walls and how proud he was that step- son Lloyd repaired it, just like new. Cecil had many jobs: Remington repairman in Ontario, Ronsen of Canada shaver repair, as a boss in Ontario; bulldozer operator, oil driver, truck driver, milk delivery, Casey Cement as a dispatcher. He also worked as a constolent, a bus driver and worked in the kitchen for the East Hants School Board. He retired as a bus driver at 65 years of age. Cecil was a proud loving husband, father, step-father, Poppa and Grampa. Cecil enjoyed his sons and families coming home to visit. Cecil is survived by his wife, Marie “Joan” Angevine-Bowman; sons, Kurt (Lorna) Bowman, Acton, Ont., Neal (Renee) Bowman, Scarborough, Ont., Craig Bowman, Las Vegas; daughters, Kyla Bowman, Nine Mile River, Candace Bowman, Shubenacadie; step-sons, Lloyd Angevine (Stacey), Upper Burlington, Brian Angevine (Jen), Garland’s Crossing; grandchildren, Kyle Bowman, Dana Bowman and Amber Bowman; step-grandchildren, Nick, Kyle, Makayla, Mitchel, Dakota, Emily, Conlan, Brooke and Mitchell; step great grandson, Austin; many brothers in law and sisters in law as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. A special thank you to Dr. Bruce Montgomery, Elmsdale Medical Centre as well as to the VON Nurses and Homecare workers who visited Cecil at home. A thank you to Palliative Care nurse, Lisa, Dr. Henderson who also visited Cecil at home. Special thank you to the doctors and nurses on 2nd floor, to those on 3D Wing and those on the Palliative Care Unit, especially Dr. Courtney Smith and nurse, John Gatto. At Cecil’s request, there will be no formal service, but all are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 7th from 1-3pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Private family interment will take place at a later date in Sand Hill Cemetery, Upper Nine Mile River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sand Hill Cemetery or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro.
