MORRISEY (Rumsey), Pearl Edwina – 97, Truro, formerly of Belmont. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pearl Edwina Morrisey, on Thursday April 28, 2016, at Wynn Park Villa, Truro, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Blanche (Balcom) Rumsey. She was the loving mother of daughters: Blanche Priest, Pearl (Charles) Priest, Shirley (Jim) Roode, Phyllis Harvey, Donna (Clint) Jamieson, Kathy (Harvey) Veniot, Lori Jean; sons: Charles, Kenneth (Valerie), Karl; cool grandmother with a great sense of humour to seven grandchildren: Krista-Leigh (Brad), Shelley (Parker), Michele (Blair), Kim (Cody), Christopher (Jodi), Ashley (Matt), Amanda (Glenn) and eleven great-grandchildren: Brandon, Maddy, Harrison, Mya, Sofi, Katherine, Harland, Heath, Morgan, Emily, Victoria. She is also survived by a special niece and nephew, Carolyn MacPhee of Edmonton, Alberta, and Hugh Struthers, Ontario, as well as cousins, Minnie (Bob) Sowerby, Kentville, and Phyllis Hinchcliffe, Wynn Park Villa. Edwina was a long-time resident of Belmont where she dedicated her life to raising her family after being widowed at a young age. She made many sacrifices in her life to ensure her family came first. She cherished family gatherings and took special care in preparing those delicious Sunday and holiday dinners. She was a dedicated past volunteer with St. John’s Ambulance and was an adherent of Belmont Baptist Church. Mom had a passion for books and was an avid reader throughout her life. She enjoyed travelling, experiencing new things and exploring new places. She loved her early morning coffee and tackling the daily crossword puzzles while listening to her favourite country music songs and fiddle music. She waited for the arrival of spring to watch her flowers grow and to hear the sounds of spring, especially the frogs singing. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Alonzo Morrisey; sisters, Leatta (MacLellan) Struthers, Hattie MacLellan; son-in-law, Eldon Priest; step-father, Hugh MacLellan. A heartfelt gratitude to the VON care workers who assisted Mom while at home, as well as Dr. Locke and the wonderful staff at Wynn Park Villa who lovingly cared for our Mom during her residency there. They truly made it a home away from home and became her extended family. In keeping with Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation and a private family service will be held under the direction of Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, Reverend Henry Boehm officiating. Interment in Belmont Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Pearl’s memory to Wynn Park Villa Recreation Department or Belmont Cemetery Corporation are welcomed. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Pearl’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send A Condolence” at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
