Kenneth 'Ken' Carson LeBlanc

Born In: Sydney Mines

Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: April 30th, 2016

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Kenneth Carson LeBlanc, 63, on Saturday, Apr. 30, 2016 in North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, Ken was the son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Todd) LeBlanc.
Ken had a passion for the water. He loved fishing, boating and this may have all stemmed from his working days as wheels man and a deck hand on the lake boats. He had excellent navigation and marine skills. He loved cooking, seafood was a favourite, tried any recipe that perked his interest even concocted his own, some were unsuccessful but he never stopped. He loved to read a lot and Farley Mowat was just one author he loved. He cut articles from the newspapers and showed them to others. He collected lighthouses and any nautical memorabilia.
After working on the boats, Ken was employed with De Haviland Aircraft Company in Toronto painting aircrafts. He later moved to London, Ont., to pursue a career with Union Gas as a stationary engineer. While in London, he opened up his own company called Ken LeBlanc Technical maintenance. Ken’s heart was in Cape Breton, he sold his company and home in London to move back east to be with family and work his final years in Fort McMurray as foreman before retiring in September 2015. He was a member of Florence Legion. Ken touched many hearts in many special ways and always had a way of making things possible when everyone else thought it couldn’t happen.
Ken is survived by his son, Kenny Jr. (Geneva); daughter, Theresa (Glen Murphy) Hickey and Megan Wanamaker; grandchildren, Megan, Matthew and Rylan; brothers, Jim (Shelia), Ralph (Pat MacLean) and Melvin (Debbie); brother in-law, Courtney George; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his brothers, Matthew ‘Buddy’, Cameron ‘ Cammie’ and a sister, Helen Marie.
As per Ken’s wishes, cremation has taken place and memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney with Fr. Patrick O’Neil officiating. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Donations in memory of Ken may be made to Sydney Mines Food Bank or charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.
