Passed on: May 4th, 2016
It is with beautiful memories and heavy hearts that we, the family of Jack Winstanley, 87, announce his passing on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on Sept. 29, 1928, Jack was the son of the late Richard and Margaret (Vickers) Winstanley.
Jack retired from Devco in 1989 after 38 years of employment. Jack lived his life solely for his wife and children. His most special moments were spent on Sunday drives and camping trips with his family. He was the daddy and grandfather who could fix anything. A truly beautiful carpenter, we cherish everything he ever made. Da was the gentlest man with the biggest bear hugs.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, (his best buddy Will) Mary Mildred (Day) Winstanley; his six daughters, Debbie (Bill) Strickland, Lynn (Bryce) Stubbert, Marlene (Brent) Stubbert, Jacqueline (David) Gerrow, Bernadette (Robbie) Simm, Adele (Paul) Arsenault; and his only son, John (Donalda) Winstanley. Da/Poppy is also survived by his 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren (all were his special “Suzie Qs and Tigers in the tank.”) Also surviving are his brothers, James (Ann) and Richard (Shirley) Winstanley; his sister, Vera Metzger; and sister-in-law, Margaret Winstanley.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, Edward (Anita), Robert and Richard (in infancy) Winstanley; his sister, Lillian (Douglas) Wilson; and brother-in-law, Gordon Metzger.
Jack’s family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer, the staff of 5 East and 4 West, Northside General Hospital, palliative care, VON, and the Adult Day Program.
According to his wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
“The most kind and gentle man that God ever gave life to.”
