Elizabeth "Muff" Easson

Born In: New York City, New York, United States
Born: January 23rd, 1927

Passed in: Middleton, Canada
Passed on: May 6th, 2016

Our much loved mother passed away peacefully at Mountain Lea Lodge on May 6, 2016 with her daughter by her side at the age of 89. Mum was predeceased by her first husband, MW “Bud” Graves in 1991 and second husband, William Parker “Bill” Easson in 2010. Muff, as she was known to all, was born in New York City on January 23, 1927, only child to John and Ruperta (Bent) Tait. The Tait family returned to Nova Scotia in 1933 and settled in Tupperville. Mum attended the little one-room schoolhouse there, and later graduated from Bridgetown High School. After graduating, Mum worked in the Royal Bank in Bridgetown. It wasn’t long before Minard “Bud” Graves became smitten, and although he was working in Berwick, pursued her relentlessly via correspondence, and eventually convinced her to marry him. They were married on November 10, 1949, and there was never a woman more loved. They first lived in Berwick where they built a home, and had three daughters and a son. In 1964, the family moved to Coldbrook. In addition to her family Mum had two other loves: music and friends. She had a beautiful voice and over the years sang in various church choirs. She was never shy when singing, and would sing loudly at school gatherings—much to the embarrassment of her children. Mum had great style, a zest for life and loved to entertain. She was the ultimate hostess and she and Dad held many parties while living in Coldbrook. These usually culminated in a rousing sing-along accompanied by Mum on piano. Mum was noted for her exuberant personality and most of all her hugs which came to be a great source of amusement to her second husband, Bill. Mum was never idle and had lots of hobbies. She enjoyed curling, golfing, rug hooking, painting, playing piano, playing bridge, knitting, needlepoint, reading and crossword puzzles. She loved to travel and she and Dad spent many winters vacationing in the sunny south. Mum was a very warm, kind hearted and caring person. She was like a magnet, drawing people to her. It didn’t matter whether they were of her generation, or of a younger. There were always friends dropping in and no-one went away hungry. They were always made welcome, and often extra room was made at the table for dinner. Sadly, Dad passed away in 1991, and after a time of grieving in her family home in Tupperville, Mum moved to Berwick in 1996, to be closer to her friends. Mum wasn’t destined to spend her years alone. While volunteering at a local food bank in Berwick, she met William “Bill” Easson, whom she married in 2000. Once again she had a husband who enjoyed travelling and they set out on a whirlwind tour of Europe. Mum and Bill had many happy times but sadly Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2008 and shortly after settled into Mountain Lea Lodge. All through the stages of the disease, Mum’s inner love of life continued to shine and draw people to her. Predeceased by her first husband, MW Graves in 1991, Mum is survived by her daughters, Lee (Geoff Lindup), Laurie (Dave Jolly) and Lissa Hake, and son, Tait (Leigh); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Clayton, Morgan, Trevor, Clinton, Erin, Gabe and Maggie; and great-grandchildren, Justin, Kyle, Saskia, Talia, Katelyn and Megan. She was predeceased by her second husband, WP Easson in 2010 and is survived by step children, Paul (Cindy), Tom (Marsha), Peter (Heather), Ruth, and Allison (Shawn Muzzerell), nine step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Our family is eternally grateful for the tender loving care provided by the staff of Mountain Lea Lodge. They were Mum’s family for the past six years, and they gave her love and treated her with kindness and respect. We couldn’t have asked for more. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NS. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside service for family will be held at a future date. Mum wouldn’t have wanted us to be sad, but rather have us top up our glasses and remember her as she was and all the good times we’ve had. Cheers, Mum, you will be greatly missed by your family, friends and those whose lives you touched. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
