William Austin Weagle

Weagle, William Austin – 77 of Tatamagouche, son of Elmore and Angela (Cox) Weagle, formerly of Dartmouth, N.S., passed away at his home on May 20, 2016 in Tatamagouche. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Dianne Hyson, Sandra Hampton, Joanne Weagle-Trudeau; his stepson of the heart, Mark (Mick) Glendenning; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Jean (Tims) Weagle, and his daughter, Susan Weagle. Bill entered the Canadian Armed Forces as a commissioned second Lieutenant in 1958 and served until his retirement as Lieutenant Colonel in 1983. His career started in Germany with the 8th Hussars (Princess Louise’s) followed by subsequent postings to Petawawa, Ont., the Middle East, Montreal, Que., Gagetown, N.B., South Vietnam, Halifax, N.S. and Ottawa, Ont. Bill received various military medals and awards for meritorious service, peacekeeping and NATO duties. After retiring from the regular force, he was appointed Commanding Officer of the Military Component of the Nova Scotia Emergency Government Headquarters in Debert and remained in reserve service until 1994. He later served in the Nova Scotia Emergency Measures Organization in several capacities. He retired as the Central Zone Controller in 2004, but continued in related activities for several years afterward. He was generous with his time including membership in clubs, associations, committees and foundations. Cremation has taken place. A time to gather and remember Bill will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 13 at the Weagle family home 15 Pine St., Tatamagouche. A private interment will be held in Sunny Brae Cemetery.
