James 'Jim' B. Thompson
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of James ‘Jim’ B. Thompson 78, who passed away peacefully Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
Born and raised in Sydney, Jim was the son of the late James H. and Sadie Thompson of Sydney.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Fudge/ Thompson of 34 years; as well as his sister, Kay (Melvin) MacDonald.
Jim spent his career as an automotive mechanic in numerous local car dealerships/garages as well as the Cape Breton Regional School Board. After retirement, he worked briefly at the Canadian Corp. of Commissionaires.
An avid NASCAR and hockey fan, you could find Jim cheering on his AHL/NHL Leafs with his face painted in the Maple Leaf emblem. He was very proud of his three children (Bernadette, Kevin & Valerie) who all serve(d) in the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as his extended family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed dancing and many camping trips with his confidant and life partner, Myra Best.
Special thanks to Cape Breton Continuing Care, VON, CBRH Palliative Care Unit, doctors, nurses & volunteers. Special thanks to Doctor D'Intino whose remarkable professionalism and empathy was felt by all.
An informal gathering will be held at the family home on the afternoon of Saturday, May 28th for friends and family.
