New Glasgow - James Gordon “Jim” MacLeod, age 92, of Herbert and Birch Street, New Glasgow, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Jim was born in Lansdowne and was a son of the late John D. and Christine E. (MacPherson) MacLeod. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, where he served as an Elder for 58 years and also served on the Board of Managers and Trustees. Jim was also a former member of the New Glasgow Lions Club.
In his earlier years, he worked for Matheson Bros. Lumber Co; served in the army with the Edmonton Fusiliers’ Service Corps; worked for Proudfoot Motors; and Commercial Equipment Ltd for 28 years, the last 24 years as branch manager until his retirement in 1984.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen Jean (Hayter); son, Kevin (Margaret); three beloved grandchildren, Christopher (Nicole), Allison and Lindsay. He was a devoted grandfather spending endless joyous hours with them in his favourite camp at Lansdowne and at the cottage in Seafoam.
He was predeceased by his brother, John R. “Jack”, sister, Mary Ruth Latimer and brother-in-law, Ron Latimer.
Visitation Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 p.m., in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Greg Dickson officiating assisted by Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Gairloch Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
