William “Bill” Barentsen

William Barentsen, dearly beloved husband of Doris Barentsen peacefully passed away at the Victoria Hospital, Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the age of 93. Born in the city of Middelburg, Zealand province, the Netherlands, on August 20, 1922 to parents Willem and Adriana Barentsen, Bill immigrated to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1928 with his mother and four siblings to reunite with their father who had preceded them a year earlier. He followed a family tradition in joining Burns and Company becoming supervisor of a large division of the plant. During World War II, he served with Bomber Command, R.C.A.F. in Britain. On March 31, 1984, Bill married Doris (Baumber) Boyko at Calvary United Church, thus beginning a loving relationship of 32 years. Together they travelled widely. Displaying a quiet, reserved, thoughtful nature, Bill derived pleasure from books and semi-classical music. Much enjoyment was gained from bowling, golf, curling and fishing. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Willem and Adriana; brothers Martin “Barney” and Stanley (Noni) Barentsen; sisters Lena (John) Eskes and Sarah (Harry) McKenzie; niece; nephews. Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Doris; sister Corri Barentsen; sister-in-law Irene Barentsen; his niece and nephews. A Private Family Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. A celebration of Bill’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 1S5. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
