Winifred Muriel "Winnie" MacPherson

MacPHERSON, Winifred Muriel “Winnie” – 92, Townsview Estates, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday evening, June 23, 2016, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rhoda (MacDonald) MacPherson. Winnie had a strong faith in God and was a member of The Peoples Church where she met many wonderful people and made many lifelong friends. She graduated from Provincial Normal College in 1943 and went on to teach English and after retirement, she enjoyed tutoring many children; just because she no longer taught in the classroom did not mean that her love of teaching ended. Winnie and her roommate, Helen, were known as “Thelma and Louise” and they shared a wonderful friendship. The resident cat at Townsview, Daisy, knew of her love for cats and enjoyed being spoiled with attention and treats. Winnie is survived by her sisters, Alda Henderson, North Rustico, Prince Edward Island and formerly of Truro; Norma Lambert, Hamilton, Ontario; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, especially Tammy Bond, who thought of her as her second Mother; they shared a sweet relationship and love of cats. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Verna Bond, Doris Peck. We would like to thank Elizabeth deVries for her friendship, faithful visits and delicious cookies. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, Pastor Ken Fillmore officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow. If so desired, donations in Winnie’s memory to Townsview Estates (Recreation Fund) or Palliative Care Unit (Colchester East Hants Health Centre) are welcomed.
