MacLEAN, Lois
Braeshore
It is with great love and affection that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Kathryn Lois (MacKay) MacLean, of Braeshore, on June 25, 2016 in the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou.
The daughter of Charles E. MacKay and Mary Isabel (MacCara) MacKay, she was born September 24, 1931 in Plainfield, NS.
Lois lived on the family farm until she left to live in town to attend Pictou Academy. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she then studied at the Nova Scotia Normal College in Truro to become a teacher. After a short stint at a one room school house in New Lairg she worked as a switchboard operator for Maritime Tel & Tel and later retired from Dodson’s (Fulmore’s) Pharmacy, Pictou.
Lois married the love of her life, Fraser, on August 25, 1956. They enjoyed spending time together going for Sunday drives, boating with family, and visiting with friends.
Lois was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Fraser; and brothers, Alward and John.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila and son-in-law, Michael Tobin, of Braeshore; and nephews, Robert MacKay of Windsor, ON and David MacKay of Charlottetown, PEI. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday, June 29th in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 PM Thursday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Jackie Ross officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
We would like to thank the caring staff of the Shiretown Nursing Home who provided Mom with exceptional care during her final years. Your kindness will be remembered fondly.
