Hazel Glasrud

Hazel Glasrud passed away peacefully at Providence Place on June 26, 2016. Hazel was born May 31, 1922 at Mazenod, SK, to John and Anna Martin, a sister to Vera. She attended Normal School in Moose Jaw and taught at Four Corners School and Mazenod School. It was there she met the love of her life, Calvin Glasrud and they were married October 5, 1946, first living in the town of Mazenod, and then on the farm south of Mazenod. Predeceased by her parents, beloved husband of 51 years, Cal, and precious sister Vera; and sister-in-law Sylvia MacLean, Hazel is survived by her Godson Klay Spearman; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Hazel loved to garden and had a beautiful yard at the farm. She was Cal’s right hand man in whatever task he was doing. They retired to Moose Jaw where they built a new home and enjoyed watching their yard and garden blossom. Hazel loved her home and enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. Hazel and Cal enjoyed square and round dancing for over 40 years, during which time they served on the Sask. Square & Round Dance Federation, eventually representing Sask. as directors for the Society in Canada. They were never happier than when they were on the dance floor with their many friends. They also travelled extensively; the British Isles, Switzerland, Hawaii, and Mexico; particularly enjoying the north, making several trips to the Yukon and Alaska, saw Canada from coast to coast, took several cruises, and toured many places in the United States. The Celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday July 4, 2016 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In living memory of Hazel, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
