It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Everett Read age 73 of West Leicester on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Little Shemoque, Westmorland, NB, Donald was a son of the late William Everett and Edith (Black) Read.
He was an avid farmer, woodsman and owned his own sawmill. Throughout his career, Donald drove for CN Rail. He was an Industrial Arts Teacher at ORHS, Oxford and he worked for the Department of Transportation. He held the position of Fire Chief at the Leicester Fire Department.
He was a man of many skills and diverse interests.
Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda (Carter); children; Rodger (Laura), Meadow Lake, SK, Helen (Tim) Munroe, Enfield, NS, Joan Godfrey, Oxford, NS, Edward (Monica), West Leicester, NS, Max (Heidi), West Leicester, NS, Scott (Caitlin Carroll), Riversdale, NS and Susan (David MacKenzie), Amherst, NS; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; loving dog Rusty; sisters, Doris (Mel) Vienneau, Mabel (Dave) Tarr, Helen (Hubert) Hunsley, Marjorie “Betty” (Borden) Lowther, Darlene (James) Moore as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by brother, Courtney.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 6-9 pm and Thursday 2 pm until funeral service at 3 pm all at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906, with Rev. Mark Collins officiating. Donald will be laid to rest in the Leicester Cemetery with reception to follow at Leicester Fire Hall.
Memorial contributions in Donald’s memory may be made to the Leicester Fire Department or charity of your choice.
