Gordon Sheculski

Sheculski - On Sunday July 17th 2016 at Prince County Hospital, surrounded by his family, Gordon Edward Sheculski, aged 73 years, passed away after a short illness, despite a courageous battle. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda Sheculski (Hughes), son Jeffrey Sheculski, daughter in-law Nathalie Sheculski (Bergeron) and granddaughter Kaitlynn Sheculski of Summerside.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was the son of the late Edward & Evelyn Sheculski (Larivee), Gord left his childhood home of Timmins Ontario and faithfully served his country for 34 years as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. His service in the Royal Canadian Air Force concluded in 1994 when he retired as a Master Warrant Officer, service which spanned postings from CFB Summerside (where he met Brenda), to 4 Wing Baden Sollingen, CFB Shearwater, CFB Greenwood for two tours, and CFB Trenton.
Passed to him from his father Edward, his lifelong passion for music afforded him the opportunity to be a member of the Base Band in his overseas posting as well as postings in Greenwood and Trenton. The Trenton Citizens Band also presented him the opportunity to play trombone and tuba outside of his military commitments, a pastime he enjoyed greatly. This love for music has since been passed down to both son Jeff and granddaughter Kaitlynn.
After his service to the military concluded, Gord continued to serve his community for many years, he was a former member of the Lions Club both in Greenwood Nova Scotia, and Summerside PEI. He was a member of RCAF Association 200 Wing, volunteered with the local chapter of Meals on Wheels, and in recent years served as the Secretary of Air Force Heritage Park, at the former CFB Summerside location, with the Aviation Heritage Society of PEI. He was accomplished post retirement occupying his time with many construction/renovation projects that showcased his exceptional craftsmanship. Gord was an excellent craftsman, carpenter and electrician, his enthusiasm and ability were cherished by the many that he completed work for.
Gord is also survived by sister Lynn Sheculski of Alberta, brother Ted Sheculski (Donna), sister Wendy Hietalahti (Hannu), and brother Glenn Sheculski (Maria) all of Timmins along with several nieces and nephews all of whom brought him joy.
He will be sadly missed by mother in law Hazel Hughes of Summerside, sister in-law Sheila Dunbar (Jim) of New Brunswick, and brother in law Kevin Hughes of Nova Scotia, along with nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Cremation has taken place as per Gordon's wishes, and a private family service will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in memoriam to the Prince County Hospital Foundation.
