Wendell Walsh

The death occurred after a long battle with cancer, on Saturday July 16, 2016 at St. John Hospice, UBC Campus, Vancouver, BC., of David Wendell Walsh of Vancouver and formerly of Summerside, aged 73.
Wendell was born at Prince County Hospital to his parents, David and Minnie Walsh of Summerside. He attended Summerside schools and in 1962 moved to Toronto, Ont., where he was employed with Sears Catalogue as a Dept Manager. In 1971 he moved to Vancouver BC and was employed with Eaton's flagship downtown store Pacific Centre, as Special Events Co-ordinator. A job he called the job of a lifetime. He was with Eaton's until the company closed, at which time he retired. Close to the time of his death, he said he had lived a charmed life, had a close family, travelled the world, had many close friends, a great job, lived in the same apartment for 32 years top 24th floor Beach Ave, overlooking English Bay and Grouse Mountain.
He spent many summers visiting his family in Summerside, and always took the time to visit old friends, and friends that he danced with at the Rollaway in Charlottetown as a teenager. His family always looked forward to the phone call saying he was coming home. His earlier island holidays, would see him fill the car will a bunch of kids and parents and lots of pop and chips and chocolate bars, for a day of swimming and having fun at McCallum's Point. His generosity to his family and friends, had no limits. Plane tickets, train tickets, gifts to family members were common place.
When his mother Minnie had a massive stroke in 2005, he came down for full summers, to spend time with her, comfort her, and help entertain her, until her death in 2008. He was a gentleman, very kind, spoke well of others, loved animals and who always seen the glass as half full. No one could have wished for a better son or brother. His death leaves a huge hole in our family.
Wendell was predeceased by his parents, sister Shirley DesRoche, and a sister in infancy. He leaves to mourn his sister Arlene (Phil) Woodford, Summerside and his brother Jack (Patricia) Walsh, Riverview, NB. Nieces and nephews, Donna, Danielle, Kendell, and John DesRoche. A cousin, George MacKinnon, Langley, BC who was like a brother to him and numerous cousins in PEI, NB, and ONT. Also, a best friend who visited him every day, Arturo Molina of Vancouver. Dear Art, our family could never thank you enough for all the help, assistance and true friendship you gave Wendell. We are sorry you lost your best friend. You were a true Guardian Angel.
We will always love you Wendell, all the memories are there and the love for you will be in our hearts forever. We miss you terribly, but it's time now for you to be with your loved ones, who have gone before you.
Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request, however family and friends are invited to attend the graveside service which will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery Summerside, on Wednesday 27, July, 2016 at 2:00pm. with Father Chris Sherren officiating. Ashes will be interred with his mother and father. A special thank you to Moase Funeral Home Summerside, for guiding us through this difficult time.
