Passed peacefully, away surrounded by his loving family, at the Health Sciences Centre on July 24, 2016, Melvin E. Clarke of Victoria, Conception Bay, aged 85 years. Predeceased by his parents, Alfred & Clara Clarke; brothers: Ernest, Donald, and Samuel; father & mother-in-law Gordon & Edna Burden; brothers-in-law: Eric Burden (Marie), and Gordon Burden Jr.. Leaving to mourn with an eternity of precious memories, his best friend and loving wife of 60 years, Vida, and his children Derrick Clarke (Donna), and Michelle Ivany (John). He will be sadly missed and forever adored by his beautiful grandchildren: Brent (Penni), Ashley, C.J, Alicia (Matt), Riley, and Brittany. Also leaving with fond memories his brothers: Reg (Emma), Jim (June), Ray (Ivy), Harold (Shirley), Alfred Jr. (Ina), and Will (Mona); sisters: Emily (Ralph deceased), Mary (Dan), and Sharon (Joe); brothers-in-law: Ev (Gussie deceased), Walt (Annette), and Hubert (Loretta); sisters-in-law: Jackie (Bill), Hilson (Randy), and Liz; special lifelong friends Guy & Marg Penney; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Linda Magnusson and the dedicated nurses and staff of 4 South B, HSC, for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time. Melvin worked for CN Railway for 47 years and loved telling stories about the great times he had with his "work" buddies. He was an active member of the Paradise 50+ club where he thoroughly enjoyed his games of cards, dances, and outing with Vida & all their friends. Melvin touched the lives of everyone who knew him and will be forever missed & loved. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl, on Monday, July 25th, from 2:00pm - 9:00pm; and Tuesday, July 26th, from 10:00am - 12:00pm. A service in Melvin's memory will be held at the First United Church, Churchill Avenue, Mount Pearl, on Tuesday, July 26thh, at 2:00pm. Cremation to follow. Interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Wednesday, July 27th, at 2:00pm. Flowers or donations to the Alzheimer's Society are gratefully accepted. Please visit www.barretts.ca to sign the memorial guest book.
