It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Murdock Joseph, surrounded by his loving family, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
Born in Upper Baddeck on July 11, 1931, he was the son of the late John (Jack) and Mary (MacKinnon) MacLean.
Over the course of his working career, he was a farmer, boat builder, carpenter and forestry worker. His boat building career spanned 44 years; 14 years with Pinaud’s Boat Yard, followed by 30 years at Cape Breton Boat Yard, retiring in 2006.
He was a member of Knox Presbyterian church, Baddeck and St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge #35, Baddeck.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sadie MacLean; son, Charles (Heather); daughter, Judy; son, Jonathan (Dorothy); grandchildren, Lyndsay (Joe), Kenzie (Andrea), Kyla (Nick) and Kristen; great-grandchildren, William and Evan.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck, on Saturday, July 30, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with Masonic Service at 7 p.m., followed by funeral service from the Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Burial will be at a later date.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all staff of the An Cala Palliative care unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney and the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Donations may be made to the Hospice Society of Victoria County, Victoria County Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation, Knox Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Funeral Co-op, Margaree.
