Matheson, James Sutherland “Jim”, CD. SGT. RET., of Truro, 1930 – 2016.
On Thursday, July 28th, 2016, we lost a loving husband, devoted father, step-father, step-grandfather and step-great grandfather. Jim, a true gentleman of the finest kind, a soldier, electrician, master of many crafts, including paper tole, mounting medals for veterans. Jim’s paper tole work is in many countries worldwide. He also was an excellent teacher of his crafts. Jim was dearly loved by everyone he came in contact with. Jim was a very humble gentleman, never one to boast. Jim was a true and loyal member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and retained his membership yearly. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Sarah (Sutherland) Matheson; daughter, Sheila Stewart; brother, Rev. Robert Matheson, Chicago; first wife, Lucy (McNutt); He is survived by his second wife, Marie (Murdock) Cooper, Truro; son, David Wade (Lynn), Alberta; daughter, Debbie (Willis) Howell, Debert; sister, Mabel Matheson, Oshawa; step-sons, Stephen and Jamie Cooper, Truro; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Cooper, Bedford, Aiden Cooper, Moncton; step-great-grandson, Owen Cooper, Bedford; many in-laws, including, Evelyn LeBlanc, Lloyd (Eleanor) McNutt, Kay and Dave Stewart, Pat and Jim Stewart, Joyce Lewis, Janet Holland, Lena Callis, Ella Roddick, Al (Norma) Cox, Donna Murdock, Helen Murdock, Dorothy Matheson. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 26 Truro, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service, 6:30 pm Monday, August 1, followed by visitation from 7-9 all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Tuesday, August 2, also in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, with Rev. John Parsons officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Lounge, Branch # 26, Brunswick Street, Truro. Private family interment at the Crossroads Cemetery, Valley, following the reception. Family flowers only. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation of NS, will be acknowledged. The family would like to express their thanks to 2West – Wynn Park Villa, 3E Wing, and Palliative Care, for the excellent care and kindness during Jim’s illness and passing.
