BOUTILIER, Edward Eugene – Age 84 of Meadowvale, Annapolis County, NS passed away peacefully at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 after a long battle with diabetes. Born March 10, 1932 in Halifax, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Boutilier. Ed served for 27 ½ years with the Canadian Armed Forces serving throughout Canada and Europe and retired in the summer of 1979. He was an avid enthusiast of playing sports, hunting and fishing while in the military. Ed grew up in Nova Scotia spending many of his years in Spryfield. He enjoyed music and in his early years he performed in a band called Boots & the Bandits. Ed and his wife Lee enjoyed travelling and attending many bluegrass and country music festivals across the Maritimes as well as performing their own music raising money for local benefits. Ed volunteered at the front desk of the Valley Regional Hospital and delivered newspapers to many patients for many years. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lee (White) Boutilier; sister Frances (Doll) Kelly; sons Rick (Sandra) Boutilier, Randy Boutilier; daughter Lynn (Allan) Spinney; step-daughter Marlee (Peter) Dietert and step-son Heath Gertridge; grandchildren Jennifer Ettinger, Lindsey (Jamie) Lowe, Jessica (Eric) Calaway, Christa (Rick) Davies, Danielle (Rob) Boutilier, Jonathan Boutilier, Alicia (Oran) Steele, Brandi Boutilier, Leela and Gideon Dietert; nine great grandchildren and many numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by sister, Midge Oakley and brothers Thomas, Harold, William “Junior” and Roy “Sonny”. THANK you to the hospital staff at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville & Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton and to all the caregivers for your tender care. A memorial service for Edward will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at New Beginnings Centre, 1151 Bridge Street, Greenwood NS with Pastor Neil Armstrong officiating.
