It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Mary Murphy age 82 of Joggins announce her passing on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Gables Lodge, Amherst.
Born in Minto, NB she was a daughter of the late Louis and Rita (Gallant) Gautreau.
Jean worked for Norther Telecom in Amherst for 20 years, retiring in 1995. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards. Jean was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins where she enjoyed singing in the church choir and the Glory Land Gospel Group.
She is survived by her granddaughter April of Joggins, two grandsons Nicholas and Jonathan both of Amherst, two great grandchildren Felicity and Brodie both of Amherst, sisters Irene (Fred) Hebert of Joggins, Betty Ann (Terry) O’Regan and Leanore McEachern both of Amherst, one brother Bennie (Marilyn) Gautreau of Tyndall Road, Amherst, daughters in law Janice Murphy of Amherst and Susan Murphy of Joggins, sister in law Bernice Gautreau of Amherst, brother in law Joe St. Peters of Amherst and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Clayton, sons Larry and Ronald, sisters Alice LeBlanc, Clara St. Peters, Vila Murphy and Elsie VanSnick, four brothers Ernest and three in infancy.
Visitation was held on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 – 9 P.M. from Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906)
Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins with Father Keith Billard officiating.
Interment will follow in the Ragged Reef Cemetery, Joggins.
Memorial donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
