Alphonsus (Phonse) Duggan

Passed peacefully away on August 24, 2016, at St Clare's Hospital, with the loving support of his family and friends, Alphonsus "Phonse" Joseph Duggan, aged 89 years. He was a wonderful brother, uncle and friend; was kind, patient, and helpful to all as an active member of his community. A life well lived will be mourned by his sisters Catherine Gregory and Maud Greening, sisters-in-law Norah Duggan, St. John's and Laura Duggan, Gander and his many nieces, nephews and friends. Those in his family who have passed away before him include his parents William and Ellen (nee Daley) Duggan and brothers Peter, Anthony "Tony", John "Jack" and sister Nancy Dunn. Phonse lived his life in St Joseph's where he forged life-long friendships with the people of that community, both past and present, who were an integral part of his life and helped him to remain in his home during his later years. A special thank you is extended to Theresa Bungay, Elizabeth Daley and Doris Squires, who provided caregiving to him over the past 11 years; friends Bill MacDonald, Don Greene, Joe Davis, Martin and Augusta Gough, and the many others of the community who dropped in regularly to talk about the issues of the day and share stories and good times over the years. Visitation will take at place at the Enright Memorial Chapel, St. Joseph's (Church), on Friday, August 26, from 2-9 pm and Saturday, August 27, 11 am - 2 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held following visitation on Saturday, at 3 pm, at St. Joseph's Church. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, O'Donnells with reception to be held at the St. Joseph's Community Hall. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph's Church (c/o The Good Shepherd Parish). Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gibbons' Funeral Home, St. Mary's.
