Passed on: August 24th, 2016

#55
It is with overwhelming sadness, the family of the late Shawn Neary announce his passing in the loving arms of the love of his life, Joy Green at the Health Sciences Centre, on Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 at the age of 43 years. He will be forever remembered by his "best friend" son Ryan, and "daddy's little girl" Lexi; his father Albert Neary; mother Diane (Brian) Gullage; sisters: Nancy (Robert) Baker, Tanya (Jamey) Stefanishion; half-sisters Erica and Kayla Stone; mother and father-in-law Jocelyn and Rick Leamon; sister-in-law Lori Green (Jason MacDonald); nieces: Rachel, Charlotte, and nephew Grant; and a large circle of family, friends and teammates. Predeceased by grandparents Viola and James Neary, Elsie and John McKay and Uncle Joe Neary. While Shawn enjoyed spending time at the cabin, and salmon fishing with his friends, his two biggest passions in life were his family and sports. His love for his fiancé and children was endless, they were his pride and joy, his life. Shawn spent countless hours enjoying life with Joy, and his children. When not seen with his family, he could be found being a shining athlete in one of the many sports he excelled in. Shawn began playing a variety of sports as a child, which was the beginning of his multisport athletic career. He is described by many friends and competitors as the premier athlete of his era. Throughout Shawn's sporting career he competed and won tournaments at the provincial, national and international levels in ice hockey, ball hockey, baseball, fast pitch softball, soccer and darts. The Neary family would like to extend a special thank you for the exceptional care provided by health teams at WMRH and Health Sciences ICU to Shawn during this challenging time. Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Saturday, August 27 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 8 p.m., Father Don Leonard officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Ryan and Lexi Neary Scholarship Fund. The family guest book may be signed by visiting www.fillatre.ca.
