Elmer E. Ling

Age 97, of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Wheatley River, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Toff and Harriett (Seaman) Ling. Elmer was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by daughters, Nancy Nymark (Gary), Parrsboro; Norma Alberg (Michael), Winnipeg; daughter-in-law, Pam Ling, Charlottetown; seven grandchildren, Jamie Ling, David Ling, Suzie Dowling, Stacey Elliott, Stephanie Conrad, Ashley Alberg, Andrew Alberg; 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 2012; a son, Barry in 2008; a sister and seven brothers. Elmer was a proud veteran of World War II serving overseas for 5 years. After retiring from the Royal Bank of Canada, volunteering in the community became an important part of Elmer’s life. He was an active member of the Parrsboro Lions Club and held several offices including President and District Governor. He was also a former town councilor for the Town of Parrsboro, was an active member of the South Cumberland Progressive Conservative Party, the Parrsboro Curling Club, Parrsboro Home and School Association, Cumberland Development Association, the Royal Canadian Legion, Trinity United Church, among numerous other community organizations. Elmer’s family would especially like to thank the home care workers who showed such care and compassion for him over the last four years, and all who improved their cribbage games under Elmer’s tutelage! Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016, Rev. Lloyd Bruce officiating. Burial in the Parrsboro United Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Parrsboro Lions Club or to a charity of choice.
