SALLY ANDREWS (BEATON)

SALLY ANDREWS (BEATON)

Sara Katherine “Sally” Andrews passed away on Thursday, September 15th, 2016. Sally was born in New Waterford on June 19, 1924, to the late Daniel and Mary (Cummings) Beaton, and grew up in Glace Bay.
During the Second World War, she and best friend, Mary (Roberts) Chambers trained as draftsmen in New Glasgow and worked in Toronto cutting airplane parts. In 1951, Sally met the love of her life on a blind date. Two years later, she married Albert Andrews and they moved to Sydney, where they lived until Albert’s passing in 2006. For many years, Sally worked at the Sydney Credit Union. She was an active member of Christ Church, including 20 plus years as the Sunday school treasurer, member of the sanctuary guild, bowling team and prayer group, as well as a valued member of the Ashby Home and School committee, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Sydney Co-op Board. Sally was honoured with a lifetime membership for her devotion to the Louisbourg Chapter of the IODE when she moved to Dartmouth after Albert’s passing. Family was most important to Sally and she loved being part of Albert’s large family of six brothers and five sisters. She delighted in feeding a crowd, and her door was always open to family and friends. Sally is survived by son, Albert “Allee” and wife, Deborah Woolway, Dartmouth; daughter, Laura-Ann and husband, Dennis Farquharson, Barriere, BC; daughter, Sharon Andrews-Johnston and husband, Michael Johnston, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Bronwyn Andrews (Robert Hammer) and Maxwell Andrews, Dartmouth, Taylor Farquharson (Erika Lakes) and Bhreagh Huber (Martin), Kamloops, BC and Meghan and Emily Johnston, Dartmouth; and by in-laws, Maisie Woodill, Earl and Corinne Andrews, Jeanette Sparling, Beatrice Andrews and Audrey Andrews. She was predeceased by baby sister, Margaret and a brother and sister in infancy. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 30th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Church of Christ the King, Sydney on Saturday, October 1st at 2 p.m., with Rev. Reg MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens to follow. Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Auxiliary or Church of Christ the King, Sydney.
