Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 26, 2016, Edgar Thistle, at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by his parents D.R. & Beatrice Thistle; eight brothers: Frederick, Walter, Roy, Rudolph, Harris, Reg, William and James; three sisters: Beatrice Noel, Olga Noel and Elizabeth Guy; his parents-in-law, Cyril and Annie Bailey; and brothers-in-law, Cyril and Alfred Bailey. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Dorothy (Dolly); sons: Bill (Elsie) and Ed (Donna); daughter, Heather Burbridge (David); four grandchildren: Bill (Lindsey), Sean (Ashley), Victoria, and Michelle (Mike); two sisters-in-law: Doris Thistle and Ella Bailey; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends - including his many friends at Hillcrest Estates. Edgar was a long time member of the Avalon Masonic Lodge, being Master twice, and also a long time member of the Shriners. Edgar was a kind and generous man who brought out the best in people, and always leaving those who crossed his path, with a smile. His family was the most important part of his life and he cherished every moment shared with them. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Tuesday, September 27, from 7-9pm and on Wednesday, September 28, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service to take place from St. Thomas' Anglican Church on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 11:00am with cremation to follow. Interment will take place on Friday, September 30, at the Anglican Cemetery Columbarium, Forest Road at 11:00am. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Edgar's memory may be made to the Masonic Hall 115 Mount Carson Avenue, Mount Pearl, NL A1N 0G1 or Mazol Shriners Patients Transportation Fund.
