Shirley MacGregor

The death of Shirley MacGregor, Brudenell, PEI, occurred on Wednesday, September 27, 2016 at the age of 88 in the Kings County Memorial Hospital. Shirley, youngest child of Russell and Maude (Campbell) MacGregor of Montague, completed high school in Montague and immediately began work at the local Bank of Nova Scotia. Her career with the Bank of Nova Scotia took her to Toronto, Charlottetown, Calgary, and finally Halifax. Throughout her life Shirley loved to travel—by ocean liner and plane to various locations in Europe and also by car across Canada and to the United States. With hardly a thought for herself, Shirley left her career in the bank to care for her aging parents and disabled nephew Alan. She was always there for people when they needed her. She thoroughly enjoyed her life on the Island. She traveled from one end to the other-usually with friends along, taking in church suppers, plays, musical events and almost anything going on. She was a wonderful correspondent and kept in touch with friends and family by letter and email. She was a welcome visitor—particularly at nursing homes. She was an avid genealogist with special interest in her MacGregor and Campbell roots. She was active in the work of the Montague Church of Christ and gave generously to the church as well as to numerous other charitable organizations. Shirley is predeceased by her parents, by her sister Elsie, her brother Donald and nephew Alan. She is survived by nephews and nieces: Richard MacGregor, Mary MacLeod (Gordon Callon), Lee MacLeod (Cathie MacKean), Bruce MacLeod (Paulette Ross) and Karen (MacLeod) Mazurski (Allen). Also by numerous great nephews and nieces and by great great nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 1 pm at the Ferguson Logan Funeral Home, Montague. Interment will follow at the Community Park Cemetery, Brudenell. Visitation hours will be Thursday, September 29 from 4 to7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kings County Memorial Hospital or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. www.fergusonlogan.com
