Betty Ferguson (Dearing)

Betty Ferguson (Dearing)

Born In: North Sydney
Born: December 11th, 1939

Passed on: September 27th, 2016

On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, our mom completed her life journey and as hard as that is for us, we find comfort knowing that she is reunited with her beloved husband, “Fergie”. Born December 11, 1939 into a strong, family unit and raised in North Sydney, Betty was the eldest child of Ruth and the late Bern (Dick) Dearing. After ruling the roost for five years, life certainly changed with the birth of three red-headed brothers whom she adored, but she still demanded her princess status. At the tender age of 16, she met the love of her life, Fergie, married in 1958 and with much persuasion, moved to Atlantic Street in Sydney Mines where they raised their four daughters. As a proud member of “Palmer Strands”, Betty was an avid bowler who was well known on the Cape Breton/Nova Scotia circuit. She was also a member of Sydney Mines Legion, Branch #8. Betty’s most important job though, was a stay at home mom and later, nurturing her grandchildren who were the lights of her life. Betty had endless patience with her grandchildren and they have fond memories of baking, standing on a stool next to her - elbow deep in flour, however, no one could master her cinnamon rolls and short bread. Besides her mother, Ruth, left to remember Betty are her daughters, Donna (Bill Pero), Ruth Ann March, Kelly (Darren Hodder), Danielle (Peter Wyman); grandchildren, Zach Pero (Robin), Chelsea (Silvano Rajkovic), Kayla (Nate Wolstenholme), Julianna Pero (Mohamed Shehata), Marley Hodder, Sadie Wyman; great-grandchildren, Eliana, Olive, Madelyn; brothers, Greg Dearing (Sylvia), Reg Dearing (Joanne) and in-laws, Clara Dearing and the Ferguson family members, Bill (Betty), Dru, Sandy, Bernice, Jack, Danny, Yvonne, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Betty was predeceased by her father, Bernard; son-in-law, Allan March; great-grandson, Noah; brother, Dick; nephew, Bernie and in-laws, Rod (Gladys), Christine (Mike), George (Alma), Peggy, June, Anna, Donnie, Bruce.
Our family would like to thank the staff of V.O.N. and the Northside Homemakers for their dedication, professionalism and most importantly, their T.L.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Autism Society. Visitation for Betty Ferguson will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. Funeral will take place Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Marion Barclay-MacKay officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
