KIRKMOUNT – Elizabeth Joyce “Betty” Webster, 85, Kirkmount, MacLennan’s Mountain, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sutherland’s River, she was a daughter of the late James Weir and Laura May (Hanes) Leil.
She was a member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, MacLennan’s Mountain, where she had served as a Sunday and Bible school teacher. Betty also served on the MacLellan’s Mountain Cemetery Committee for several years. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, who enjoyed all things outdoors, knitting, reading, baking and spending time with family and friends.
Betty was fiercely independent and lived her life where she wanted to be – in her beloved MacLennan’s Mountain home. She walked through life in an authentic manner congruent with her values and choices. Betty loved her dogs, Sako and Ulee. Dedicated to her family, she viewed her children as her greatest accomplishments.
Surviving are daughter, Dorothy, Winnipeg, Man.; sons, Allister (Debbie), New Glasgow; James (Brenda) and David, Kirkmount; son-in-law, Brian Skabar, Amherst; grandchildren Lindsay, Thomas, Margaret, Lauren and Jennifer; brothers, Allison (Patti), Coalburn; Philip (Brenda), Truro; Howard (Diane), Lower Sackville; George (Louise), Onslow; sisters, Frances (James) Joy, Truro Heights; Marjorie DeYoung (John Beaton), Hillside; Sharon (Peter) Wilkinson, Plymouth; Janice Polley, Linacy; Laura Nauss, New Glasgow, many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Allister Fraser “Ardo” Webster; daughter, Sandra Joyce Skabar; son-in-law, Bryne Grenkow; sister, Dorothy Leil in childhood.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. today and, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John’s Presbyterian Church, MacLennan’s Mountain with Mr. Ferguson MacKay officiating. Interment will be in MacLellan’s Mountain Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Betty’s memory to MacLellan’s Mountain Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund or St. John’s Presbyterian Church Building Fund, MacLennan’s Mountain.
