Vesta HISLOP

HISLOP, Vesta Eileen - Scotsburn
Age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Vesta was born in Rockfield, growing up later in Elmfield, Pictou County. The youngest daughter of the late George & Agnes Jane (Carson) Hislop, she became part of the Gammon family at the age of 16 when she began housekeeping for Stella, Sanford and John in Scotsburn. She was a loving “Da” to the children, grand and great-grandchildren.
Vesta is remembered for her gentle kindness. She was a faithful member of Bethel Church, Ladies Aid and Grace AMS. She was known for her knitting, especially the many afghans, and her delicious baking. Vesta enjoyed travelling, music and later singing in the choir at the Oddfellows Home where she resided in recent years.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family, Beverly Gammon, Pictou; Derek (Jayne) Gammon, Scotsburn; Brian (Brigitte) Gammon, Victoria; Jade (Tim) Grayson & Mason Murray, Edmonton; Dara Gammon, Edmonton; Taylor, and Jonathan Gammon, Owen Sound; Ariana and Gabrielle Gammon, Scotsburn; and her dear friend, Phyllis Matheson, Toronto.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Annie MacCara, Irene Hislop, Janie Henderson, Georgie Beckwith, Ella Neath, Margaret Henderson, Charlotte MacLeod, Ethel Sutherland, Drucella Langille, Gladys Langille, Zelda Hansford, as well as Sanford, Stella and John Gammon.
Thank you to the staff at Aberdeen Hospital for the excellent care they provided.
Visitation will be held 3-6 PM Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 2 PM Saturday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating.
