William Edward "Eddie" Ellis

ELLIS, William Edward, “Eddie”, passed away suddenly, October 26th, 2016 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Eddie was born on January 11th, 1942 in Truro, Nova Scotia. It is in the same small town that Eddie married his beloved wife Doris (nee Martin) and raised their six children. With his family, Eddie ran a harness racing stable at Truro Raceway for many years, racing throughout the maritime circuit and making many lifelong friends. Along with his family stable, Eddie owned and operated the “Tack Shop” in Bible Hill and Sackville Downs. After the passing of his wife, Doris, Eddie spent a number of years in Florida, grooming and training horses at Pompano Park. Although he has not been active as a harness racing trainer or driver for a number of years, Eddie stayed active in the industry as an owner. He could be found every Sunday on the Truro Raceway homestretch watching Western Scot and arguably his favorite horse, Neigh Monster as they went behind the gate. Eddie’s love of harness racing was a trait he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by children, Donnie (Debbie) Truro, Gail, Millbrook, Brenda (Russell), Millbrook, Judy (Kenny) Millbrook, Julie (Kevin) Charlottetown, PE, and Arleen (Joe) Bible Hill. Eddie was predeceased by his wife, Doris; son in-law, Terry and parents, Eliza and William (Bill). Eddie was blessed with sixteen grandchildren, Dawn, Jeffrey, Jessica, Amanda, Chris, Jason, Kayla, Ryan, Jeremy, Travis, Megan, Connor, Michael, Kyle, Christina and Chantel. Eddie was also lucky to be the great-grandfather to Madelyn, Brodie, Austin, Aiden, Saige, Trinity, Teyha, Xavier, Hayden, Lucas and Aiyanna. Eddie’s family will receive friends at a time of visitation and celebration on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 7-9pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eddie’s memory may be made to the Truro Harness Horse Owners Association.
