New Glasgow - J. Richard MacMillan, age 72, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.
Born in New Glasgow on April 18, 1944, he was one of five sons of the late Neil S. and Sarah A. (Forbes) MacMillan.
A lifelong resident of New Glasgow, he spent his working years as a crane operator at Trenton Industries, under different ownership. Richard was an avid card player who taught many how to play and was a long-time member of the BPO Elks Lodge and Bombers Club in New Glasgow.
Richard attended school at St. John’s Academy in New Glasgow and was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish.
He is survived by his brothers: Neil (Ann); and Robert (Jane), both of New Glasgow; Barry (Bridget), St. Thomas, ON; Vincent (Darla), Kingston, ON; several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you is extended to the staff of the Palliative Care at the Aberdeen Hospital under the direction of Dr. Anne Kwasnik and Debbie Williams, and to all the staff of the Aberdeen who made Richard’s stay while there very comfortable. A thank you is also extended for the benefits held for him and for those who visited him during his stay in the hospital.
Richard has been cremated. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow.
Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
