Alfred Bridges
BRIDGES, ALFRED JOHN – It is with great sadness the family announce the unexpected death of Alfred Bridges of West Saint John, who passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 22, 2013. Born in McNeil’s Mills, PEI, January of 1943; he was the son of the late Walter and Pearl (Banks) Bridges. Alfred worked as a Ship Liner at the Port for many years retiring in the late eighties. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Alfred adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them; he was a true outdoors man who loved hunting and fishing. Alfred was very skilled and talented when it came to fixing things and vehicles. With a unique sense of humour he always knew what to say; he was everyone’s best friend, you could always find him having tea with his friends at Tim Hortons. Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Shirley (Thibodeau) Bridges; son John (Bonnie); daughter Sherri (Leo); two very special grandsons Matthew and Evan Bridges; one great-great grandson Brayden all of Saint John; brother Hughie (Connie) of Saint John; sisters Linda Perry of Saint John, Harriett Rodgers (Alfred) of PEI and Bessie Gallant of Saint John; his canine companion Duke; brothers-in law, sisters-in law, nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides his parents, Alfred was predeceased by brothers Sterling, Edward, Al, Henry and Baby Walter; sisters Violet Phillips, Barbara Rennick and Joyce Coughlin.
Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Saturday and Sunday, May 25th and 26th from 2 to 4 and 7 to p.m. Funeral service will be held from the St. George’s-St. Jude’s Anglican Church 100 Watson Street, Saint John West on Monday May 27th at 11:00 a.m. Private family interment at a later date. Donations in Alfred’s memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick.
