Lois Belle (MacDonald) MacLean

It is with deep sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Lois Belle (MacDonald) MacLean on August 26, 2014 at Parkstone Enhanced Care. Born on February 20, 1928, she was a daughter of the late William G. and Violet (Heighton) MacDonald. Her childhood was spent on the family farm at Glengarry, N.S. until the family moved to Pictou during the Second World War. She was a graduate of the Business Department at Pictou Academy and worked for many years as a bookkeeper. Mom was an avid reader, crack crossword puzzle solver and a fan of a good game of bridge with the Professional Engineers’ Wives Association of Nova Scotia and the ladies at the Mayflower Curling Club. With a loving heart she enjoyed the company of friends and family, visits to Florida and memories made from special summers at Caribou Island. She was a kind friend to all creatures great and small, with cats and hummingbirds holding special places in her generous heart. She and Dad were founding members of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Halifax where she served in the Ladies Guild. We will miss her warm laugh, wry observations and stories shared. She is survived by her three children and their families: Norman (Mary Hardiman), Halifax; Phil (Barbara Pearson), Phoenix, Arizona; Lori (Steve Guy), Halifax; four grandchildren, Leigh-Ann (Josh Bryson), Ryan (Miranda Saunders), Alex and Olivia; four great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Jillian, Maria and Isabella; sister, Dorothy Hogg, Lyons Brook, NS, many nieces and nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Norman Earle MacLean, her parents, and sister, June Eloise in infancy. Visitation will be held at McLaren Funeral Home in Pictou on September 5 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral on September 6 at 11 am in the McLaren Funeral Chapel, followed by a reception at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall. A graveside committal at Waterside Cemetery to immediately follow the reception. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in memory of Lois to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or charity of your choice.
